Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE)

The Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) is an important check carried out within your baby’s first 72 hours. Having this done in your own home means it’s calm, unhurried, and tailored to your family’s comfort.

What’s included:

  • In your home, within 72 hours of birth for a relaxed and stress-free experience.

  • Time taken to ensure your baby is comfortable throughout.

  • A full, systematic head-to-toe examination of your baby.

  • NIPE is a screening test, not diagnostic—it looks for early signs that may need further review.

  • Screening of the four key areas: eyes, heart, hips, and testes in boys, plus a full general physical check.

  • A full postnatal assessment for you—covering your wellbeing, recovery, and any concerns.

  • Dedicated time for your questions to be answered so you feel reassured and informed.

  • Referrals arranged if needed, ensuring the right follow-up care for you and your baby.

Please note: the NIPE examination is undertaken for a second time when your baby is 6 weeks old by your GP.

Gentle, thorough checks for both you and your baby—bringing reassurance and peace of mind in the comfort of your own home.
