What Does Continuity of Care Look Like with an Independent Midwife in East Anglia?

When people hear the phrase “continuity of care”, they might imagine simply seeing the same midwife for their appointments. But continuity can mean so much more than that.
With independent midwifery care, the aim is to build a relationship where your midwife gets to know you, your pregnancy and what matters to you - and you get to know the person who will be supporting you.
It starts in pregnancy
From your first conversations, there is time to get to know each other. We will talk about your pregnancy, your previous experiences, your hopes and your concerns. You can ask questions, talk through your options and start to build your confidence as your pregnancy progresses. As your care continues, I am not meeting you for the first time at every appointment.
I already know you.
I know what you have told me before, what you have been thinking about and what is important to you.
Continuity through birth
For families choosing birth support as part of their care, continuity means having a midwife who already knows your preferences and has built a relationship with you. Rather than having to explain everything from the beginning, we already have that shared understanding.
Whether you’re planning a home birth or hospital birth, the aim is to provide calm, individualised support while working alongside the wider maternity services when needed.
And it doesn’t stop when your baby arrives
For me, continuity is particularly valuable in those first days after birth. You have gone from pregnancy to having a newborn in your arms, and suddenly there is a whole new set of questions.
How are you feeling? How is feeding going? Is your baby doing what you would expect? Is that feeling normal? Am I doing this right?
Having someone who already knows you means you don’t have to start from scratch.
Postnatal care can be about your physical recovery, feeding and newborn care, but it can also simply be having someone there who understands your journey so far.
So what does continuity look like across East Anglia?
I provide independent midwifery care across Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire, including personalised antenatal, birth and postnatal support.
So if you are searching for continuity-led midwifery care in Cambridgeshire, an independent midwife in Suffolk, antenatal support in Norfolk or private midwifery care in Essex, you may find that independent midwifery offers the kind of relationship-based care you’re looking for.
The exact care you receive will depend on the package or appointments you choose, but the principle remains the same: You aren’t just another appointment in a diary.
You’re a person I am getting to know, preparing to support and caring for throughout an incredibly important chapter of your life.
Is continuity-led midwifery care right for you?
If having a familiar midwife, personalised care and time to ask questions sounds like the kind of maternity experience you’d like, I would love to have a conversation with you. You don’t need to know exactly what you want yet.
Sometimes the best place to start is simply a chat. 🤍
